Phillip Bateman - Principal

Phillip is the founding member of New Horizons. With 18 years of experience in the field of group process and team development, Phil has dedicated his career to the process of helping businesses, work groups, sports teams, and individuals improve their functioning through experiential education. Phil’s reputation has been established through usage of keen observational skills of group process, and his ability to transfer actions in the "here and now" to real-life situations.

A graduate of The University of Tennessee, Phil holds a degree in Psychology with minors in Therapeutic Recreation and Religious Studies. Phil is a native Knoxvillian having grown up among the mountains, lakes and streams of the East Tennessee region. He along with "Paddy the Adventure Dog" live in Knox County and enjoy just about any recreation in the outdoors.

Gabrielle McCool - Principal

Gabrielle, "Gabe" began working in the field of experiential education in the Fall of 1999, and joined the Horizons team after completing her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling with a Minor in Therapeutic Recreation at The University of Tennessee. Gabe brings a refreshing enthusiasm and diversity to the Horizons team and is now a full partner in the organization.

Combining her academic work with group dynamics with an innate keen ability to listen and understand personalities, Gabe has established herself as a talented and perceptive facilitator. Gabe lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her police officer husband and an assortment of four-footed family members.
